Fishing in Tampa Bay
Report Date: April 21, 2004
This last week the wind has been blowing
pretty hard but we still have been able to get out fishing. This week the Snook fishing was great. We caught some really nice fish including a 36-inch Snook, which takes the place as this weeks Snook of the week. We had one day in particular, this was the kind of day that you have only once in a while. It was the windiest day of the week and we started the day off with Tarpon fishing, well at least we tried. It was way too rough so we decided to go up river to get out of the wind. We pulled up to the fishing hole, no more than put out bait in the water and had a 30-inch Snook on. It just got better from there. We caught a few Jacks and then the bite started. We caught a 35-inch, a 34-inch, and three 31-inch Snook, with a few smaller Snook mixed in. I say small but all the fish were over 25 inches. With all the Snook we also caught about 20 Jacks, most of these fish were over10lbs with some about 20lbs. It was a neat day. And that was just the start of the week. We had a few more days in which we caught at
least 30 Snook per day.
The Redfish bite was a little bit slower. With the all the wind these fish are hard to find on the flats. The last two days of the week the tides cooperated and the wind let up a little and we managed to find some fish. The Redfish catch of the week was a 28-inch fish.
With all the wind we didn?t have a chance to do any Tarpon fishing. However the Sharks are back! I wouldn?t have believed it had I not seen it for myself. Black tips, Sand Sharks, and some Hammerheads, we had an afternoon last week were we caught a few of each. Fishing has been great and I hope to see you soon!
