Bigger is better!
Report Date: October 18, 2004
Well we started this week out with a bang!. We started early Monday morning Tarpon fishing. We anchored up before the sun came up and got in a good place were we should be able to hook the great Silver King. We were there for about 40 minutes before we managed
to hook the Silver King and this fish was big especially for the first Tarpon that the gentlemen had ever hooked. It was over 150 lbs . Let me tell you what it put up one heck of a fight!. For the first hour we couldn?t get the fish within 50 ft of the boat, About an hour and a half into the fight we managed to leader this great Silver king which is as good as boating the fish We did manage to fight this fish for another twenty minutes right next to the boat before
the fish broke free . Before this time the gentlemen said the biggest fish that he had ever caught was a bass that was about 3 lbs so you can only imagine the excitement for this great Silver king! This was one of the two Tarpon trips this week The other trip we hooked another awesome Tarpon. This fish was about 125 lbs , We managed to boat this fish in about 45 minutes. This one was also one of the biggest fish that this gentlemen had ever caught. His brother has been on 6 Tarpon fishing trips in the Keys and other places and this is the only Tarpon that he has seen boated. Hopefully it will be his turn next time.
The Red fish bite was a little slower this week just about each trip we did manage to catch a few Reds to take home if the people wanted but most of the fish were real small. With this is real good news for the future I haven?t seen a lot a lot of small Red fish. With the weather the tides are starting to get to the winter lows which are tides that I like to fish a lot . So over the next couple of weeks the Red fish bite should be better. The Red fish of the week was a 27 inch fish.
The Snook fishing was better most of this week. We did not have much trouble
finding a good Snook bite. Most of the fish we caught ranged 22-28 inches which with the light tackle we had a lot of fun. Most of the week we caught 15-20 Snook with a few days that the numbers were a lot higher A big part of it was the tide. The Snook of the week was a 28 inch fish.
Then we have the Trout fishing. This has been an early morning bite. We have had a Trout frenzy and they have been going nuts. There is not a day that first thing in the morning if you are looking for some fish to take home you can catch your limit of Trout in a short amount of time. With the Trout we
have been catching a number of other fish. We did have one really great Trout this week it was a 26 inch Trout that weighed about 6 lbs. What a nice fish!
One of the stories that I did forget to talk about was one of the mornings that we were Tarpon fishing . We were sitting there getting a few bites every once in a while. When we hooked a Grouper and it took us down into the rocks real quick which with the big Grouper this is nothing unusual. So we did the little trick where you let the fish think that they broke off. This worked the gentlemen was reeling the fish in when suddenly the fish started fighting harder. We still thought it was just a big grouper. By this time we are all looking at this fish thinking that we are going to pull this big grouper up. Then all of a sudden the gentlemen pulled what was left of the Grouper out of the water which was just the head. We looked at it for a minute then we decided to put it back in the water to see if what ever it was that took the fish would take what was left of the fish. But no luck the fish ended up getting tangled up on the fishing rod when we were throwing it back out and it ended up breaking off. So the big one got away!
