There still around!
Report Date: August 23, 2004
They?re not gone yet, yes that right I mean the Tarpon they are still around. We had only one day that we got a chance to get out
Tarpon fishing last week but we had some good fishing. We hooked 5 did not manage to boat any of these Silver Kings but we did fight a couple of fish for a while. Out of the 5 fish 2 of them were over 100 lbs we had a few real good jumps out of these fish. As the season goes the Tarpon will stay around they just move to different locations.
The Snook fishing was a little slow this week .We had a few days where we caught a few fish but with the slow bite we fish for a lot of other fish. The Snook are starting to move around they should start moving back in to the bay soon. Most of the fish that we are catching are still around the pass and off the beach. Snook season opens in just over a week we will start doing a lot more Snook fishing. The Snook of the week was a 28 inch fish.
The Red fish bite is still real good. We had a few days where we got the fish in a re
al good frenzy and we caught over 30 Red fish. Most of the fish ranged between 18-24 inches with a few real outstanding fish. We did manage to catch a few Red fish on artificial lures but most of them were caught on live bait. . We have been catching a lot of bait so that when you get on a big school of fish you can keep the Red fish around feeding. The Red fish of the week was a 32 inch fish.
The Rocks back in the bay are producing
a lot of fish. We are catching just about everything that swims. Well not really but we are catching a number of species. Last week we fished on some rock in Tampa bay we caught some big Mackerel. With the Mackerel we caught Grouper, Sharks, Blue fish, Dogfish, Cat fish, Jack Crevalle, Trout, a Cobia, and a few real nice Mangrove Snapper. We even saw a few Tarpon rolling on the rocks but did not managed to hook any.
