TAMPA BAY FISHING MAKING MEMORIES!

Sometimes wind is a good thing! Last week was a windy one, and it was a good thing. The wind helped bring the water temperature down roughly 6 degrees to 8 degrees, and the fish like it. It also helped give us fishermen a cool down on a hot days. Depending on what direction the wind is blowing and what you’re fishing for, wind can be very helpful.
Redfish are now on the shallow flats of the Bay, and we certainly have seen some big ones lately. Many of the redfish we’ve caught have been either in
the slot or oversized. The redfish bite will continue over the next few months as more fish move to the flats.
Snook fishing is not as good as it was before last winter, but they are still around and biting. We caught over 15 fish last week on a couple of different days. We used to catch 30 fish to 40 fish at any time last year, but with many of them dying last winter, we were happy to catch the number that we did. Most of the fish we caught were 18 inches to 25 inches. As fall nears, the snook bite and the size of the snook will get better.
The sharks are biting. Lately, we’ve caught many sharks while
trout fishing. Almost every time we get a good trout bite going the sharks move in and the trout fishing turns into shark fishing.
The Tampa Bay tarpon bite is still great. Last week we hooked a number of fish that were in the 100 lb range. A 100 lb tarpon produces a great fight once hooked. Every tarpon is different. I’ve seen a 50 pounder fight harder than a 150 pounder, but very few times do you see a 100 pound fish give up very easily. Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip today!
