TARPON-REDFISH TAMPA BAY IS WHERE YOU WANT TO BE!
Report Date: July 28, 2010
If you want to catch a fish, now is the time to do it. If it’s in the water, it’s biting. Change is the norm these days. We’ve seen a lot of change the past few weeks, and should continue to see it over the next few as well.
It’s hard to classify
one bite as the best, but the tarpon bite is pretty darn close. Much like last year at this time, we are currently catching more tarpon than we have all year. The late summer bite is superb! Each morning we’ve managed to jump over six tarpon and land a few. The size of the fish really depends on the day. We’ve caught 30 pounders one day and 150 pounders the next. The bite should remain good for the next few weeks, and maybe even longer.
While tarpon fishing, we’ve hooked a few fish that we haven’t been able to turn, see, or stop so we brought out the big gun! We started fishing with a heavy rod with 400 lb fishing line. With that rod, we caught a goliath grouper that was pushing 300 lbs. A few weeks prior to catching the 300 pounder, we caught a 200 pounder on light tackle so I knew that these big fish were around. Take a look at the pictures. Is Anyone up for the challenge?
Many redfish
are showing up. With the right tide, place, and bait, we’ve been able to catch them. Many of the fish we’ve caught have been oversized, but we have caught some keepers too. I don’t know of many people that get upset about catching fish that are to big to keep. They definitely make for a great fight and a nice picture. Weather you’re up for the challenge of
catching a massive grouper, the great fight of a redfish, or just wanting to catch a few fish for dinner, now is the time to do so! Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip today.
