TAMPA BAY FISHING!
Report Date: May 14, 2010
The Florida sun is blazing. It went straight from winter to summer, but after the brutally cold winter we had, I’m not complaining. Much like a fish, I’ll take hot weather over cold weather any day. Lately, fishing has been great. It has produced non-stop action just like we like it!
Although we’ve
had a few days that brought about tuff tarpon fishing, overall, it has been good. Every trip we’ve managed to put a fish in the air. This week, we landed a 150 pounder after a great fight. That 150 pounder is just the start of what is to come in the future. More and more tarpon are appearing every day.
The grouper bite is happening! We have caught our limit of grouper in the Bay on more than one occasion. It has been great fun, and I think we are going to see more of it over the next few weeks.
The redfish
bite has been hit or miss lately. Although we’ve caught redfish everyday, some days it takes harder work than others to catch them. A bunk tide is mostly the reason for the redfish decreased appetite, but that should change next week when the tides improve. The redfish we have caught have been in the slot with a couple over sized fish mixed in. The numbers of redfish in the Bay are great, and if it keeps warming up, the bite will get much better.
Trout fishing is phenomenal. Get out on the edge of a flat,
and you can just about catch as many trout as you want and then some. The sizes of the fish are great too.
Snook are a bit tough to find, but when you find them, they are feeding. We’ve caught a number of great fish last week. I am so happy to see that there are not only still snook around after our cold winter, but that they are also biting. Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip today!
