TAMPA BAY GETTING TO COLD!

Report Date: January 18, 2010

Brrrr…. Southwest Florida has been hit with freezing temperatures. It has not reached 60 degrees for 12 straight days. For Florida, weather under 60 degrees for 12 days in a row is unheard of. Needless to say, the water temperature has plummeted. Personally, I have never seen the water temperature so low. The bottom machine was reading a water temperature of 39 degrees last week. Don’t fret… The sun is shining, and warmer weather is around the corner.

Cold or not, there are a lot of really nice fish around. Recently, we found some great fish on the flats. We found big schools of redfish and trout, schools of 100 or more fish.

We weren’t able to get the fish to bite, but it was great to see that they were around after the brutal cold snap we just had. Once the water temperature comes up a few more degrees, the fish will be active again.

The water temperature in the river was almost 8 degrees warmer than the flats, and the fish know it. We caught some great redfish and sheepshead there last week. Looks like we are going to have to continue fishing in the rivers until the water temperature comes up. Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip today!
