Tampa Bay Fishng With The Wind!
Report Date: July 1, 2009
Wind, wind, and more wind! This is one of the windiest summers that I can remember; it just won’t let up. However, the wind has helped make it feel less steamy. Less heat in Florida in the summertime is always a good thing. Not only has it been windy, it has been rainy too. It can be hard to deal with sometimes, but for the most part, it hasn’t affected us. We’ve still fished everyday and caught many fish.
Snook fishing has been great! Not only have we caught a lot of snook, we’ve caught a lot of big snook.
We’ve been doing a lot of snook fishing around areas where there is a lot of tidal flow because snook tend to spend their summers in these areas. When these fish are on the edge of a sand bar or on some kind of structure, there are usually a lot of them. It is usually a mixed bag with a lot of small fish, but make sure you don’t let your leader get frayed up because that is when the big one will bite. Over the next few weeks, the snook bite should remain good and we should start to see some bigger fish.
Redfish have been hit or miss lately. We’ve caught a lot of fish on certain days then not been able to even find a redfish on other days.
This is one type of fishing that the wind has affected because it has been too rough to fish in the areas where they have been. When we’ve put some time into redfishing, we’ve managed to catch them.
The wind has affected tarpon fishing the most. These fish are in areas where it is hard to catch them when the water is too rough. Tarpon are still around;
they are just a bit harder to catch when it’s windy. We have caught many other species, such as, grouper, sharks, jacks, and barracuda while fishing for tarpon. Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip today!
