Tampa Bay Waters Cooled Down A Little!

Florida received a rapid chill last week with temperatures plummeting to the lower 30’s. Thirty degrees and below is cold to us Floridians. Actually, I believe it was the coldest temperatures we’ve had this winter. Luckily, it is already back up in the mid 70’s now. The cold spell did shake up the fish a bit, but don’t worry, it will be right back to where it was prior to the cold weather soon.

The change in the water temperature pushed many fish up in the river. We did find a lot of fish in some

of the deeper holes in the river, but they were hard to get to bite. We did manage to catch a few redfish out of the deeper water in the river, but for the most part, snapper was the only fish that really had a good bite. We definitely caught a number of nice snapper.

The mornings we spent fishing in the river were pretty cold, but it almost always warmed up to a comfortable temperature in the afternoon. Most of the redfish and snook that we caught in the river were in really shallow water. The snook bite was slow, but the redfish bite wasn’t

bad. We caught a good number of these great fish. The fish were even cold to the touch. They were definitely where they were trying to warm up.

Even with the cold weather, we were still able to do a little fishing in the bay, and caught a few trout while doing so. The water in the bay was cold, but the sheepshead fishing was good. With it as cold as it was, sheapshead fishing brought the most action last week. With the weather warming back up, the fish will be back on the flats by the end of the week!
