Fishing is just right in Tampa Bay!
Report Date: October 10, 2008
The weather was great last week. The water temperature did come up a bit, but it didn’t affect the fish much. The weather should continue to get cooler in the next few weeks and fishing should be good. It is just a great time of year to be on the water.
Snook fishing
has been great lately, and it will just continue to get better as we get closer to winter. When the water temperature decreases then increases in a short period of time as it did last week, it turns the bigger fish on. During this time of year, fish are usually moving in areas where they spend the winter. On a few different days last week, we caught some great fish due to them moving to their winter spots. Last week it seemed like the fish we caught were bigger on average than what we were catching in previous weeks. As usual, we caught a few fish that were just a little short of the limit of 26 inches to 28 inches. We also caught some fish that were in the hard to hit slot of 28 inches to 33 inches. Over the next few weeks snook fishing should get better and better.
Redfishing was a bit slower last week than usual. Most of the fish that we did catch were mixed in with snook. We did catch 15 to 20 redfish one day last
week, but for the most part, we caught 3 to 5 redfish mixed in with snook each day. Some big schools of fish are still moving around in the bay, but we haven’t spent much time trying to find them.
Tarpon fishing has been awesome. Much like the snook, bigger tarpon have started showing up. It might take a few minutes to get the fish going but after you get them going, you better get your mind right because it’s fish on! It’s a great thing to see all these great fish in the Tampa Bay area. Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip today!
