Spotlight is on the redfish in Tampa Bay!

Report Date: July 9, 2008

Change is in Tampa Bay and it’s for the better! Each fish has its time in the spotlight, and the tarpons’ time is about up. But…move over tarpon because here come the redfish! Over the past few weeks the tarpon bite has decreased, but the redfish bite has made up for it, and the snook and trout bite has remained the constant.

The snook

continue to move around, but that hasn’t stopped us from catching them. Although they are on the move, most of the fish we’ve caught have been around the mouths of the rivers or passes. These fish are in big schools this time of year so when you find a few fish look around because there are many more close by. Last week’s snook were great fish. Imagine a 30inch to 35 inch snook pulling drag on your fishing reel before jumping out of the water to try and throw the hook. Ahhh… it’s any fishermen’s dream.

The redfish have stepped into the spotlight. They are showing up again. We recorded a fishing show that will air on Direct T.V. last Thursday, so you can see how good redfishing really was for yourself in a few weeks. During the

taping of the show we hooked a few tarpon, landed one, and did some great redfishing. It should definitely be a good fishing show with lots of action. Each day we fished for redfish last week, we got on an awesome bite, but the size of the fish varies with the day. One day all of the fish were oversize and the next day all the fish are just right at about 18 inches to 25 inches. Stay in the spotlight redfish because you sure have been fun to catch!

Tarpon are still around; we just haven’t been fishing for them as much as we were in the past. For the most part, tarpon fishing has let up a bit, but there are still some fish around the beach. Most the fish we’ve caught has been up in the Bay. I know if someone told me that they were catching tarpon the way we have caught them over the past few weeks I would tell them they were lying. However unbelievable it is, it certainly is the truth!
