Always up for a challenge!
Report Date: April 19, 2008
I always like a good challenge when it comes to fishing! Lately, that is just what I’ve had with a lot of wind and some cold weather. Believe it or not, a cold front came through the area this week and brought the water temperature down with it. The water temperature went from the range of 74 degrees to 78 degrees down to 65 degrees and even colder on some of the shallow flats. Since we don’t usually have cold fronts this time of year, it has brought about a big change. We had to get out of the wind and try to find some areas with a warmer water temperature this past week. We had some tough days, but we still caught a number of fish.
Snook fishing
has brought the most action this week. For the most part, snook fishing was good the entire week. It was even good on the colder days. We had some big numbers of fish and a few great size fish. Most of the fish we caught were just under the limit of 26 inches to 27 inches, but we did have a few fish that did make the limit. The fish of the week was a snook that pushed 31 inches. It was an awesome fish. When we hooked the fish, it took so much line off the rod that I thought I was going to follow.
What
a great redfish!!! We caught one that pushed 35 inches. It is the biggest redfish we’ve caught this season. Take a look at the picture to see the big red. When the water temperature drops like it has, you have to find some warmer water to fish or just wait for the water temperature to come back up. The redfish bite was good at the beginning of the week.
No worries… the tarpon are still here! Before the cold front hit the area, I went on a tarpon trip. We hooked five tarpon and boated two on one trip. We just need it to warm back up so we can go catch some of the big fish again. Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip today!
