Getting warmer!

The fish are still chasing live bait. We’ve had to work for the bite a little harder due to the water temperature fluctuating so much, but we’ve managed to find some fish to bend the rod everyday. It’s a given this time of year that you just have to work for the bite. At other times, the fish are in the same areas they have been and they bite every time you drop bait in the water. Today, however, they don’t want to bite. Even if you throw the entire tackle box at them, they just won’t bite. On days like today, you just have to move on to another spot and find some fish that will bite.
We did a lot
of fishing for redfish this week, but we had to work for them. Before our most recent cold front you couldn’t put bait in the water without a fish jumping on the line in seconds. When the water temperature dropped about 10 degrees it changed things up a bit. We’ve had a bit of trouble getting the redfish to bite even through plenty of them are still around. They just don’t want to bite when the water temperature is low. Everyday we have managed to catch 3 to 5 redfish, but we haven’t gotten a bite on each bait that hit the water. Most of the fish we caught were slot size, being about 18 inches to 24 inches in size. If you’re looking for dinner, the redfish is what you want to catch.
The snook bite has been awesome this week! I really can’t explain it, but I like it. The water temperature has been a bit cold this week. It’s been around 64 degrees to 67 degrees in the areas
where the fish are. It’s a good thing if snook are biting this good already because it’s an indication that this snook season is going to be an awesome one. We caught a number of fish that were really close to slot size, which is 28 inches, and a number of fish that went over the slot. Although snook are out of season until March, they are lots of fun to catch.
Another fish that we have had some great luck with lately is the trout. We haven’t done lots of this type of fishing, but the little that we have done; we managed to catch a good number of fish.
