Not to late!
Report Date: December 6, 2007
Well I didn't get to spend much time rod and reel fishing on the water this week. I was on the water every day but mostly mullet fishing with a cast net. The days that I did get out with a rod and reel were great. The fishing has been outstanding I can't believe that we are still using live bait this time of the year. The water temp is still in the 70's this is very unusual for this time of the year. If it's Snook and Red fish that you want to catch this next week looks like it going to be a good time to spend some time on the water.
The
Snook fishing has been great. There are a lot of bigger fish moving into the rivers and areas like that which usually this time of the year they are already up in the rivers. This is because the water temp hasn't gotten cold enough to push them up in too far. Some days the bite has been outstanding they are almost jumping in the boat. Then other days we had to work for the bite a little more. This is because of the weather on some days the wind won't let you fish in different areas and other days the pressure change will mess them up. But overall I can't believe we're still fishing with live bait this time of the year and catching Snook. Areas that are good to fish this time of the year are structure in and on the shore lines of the rivers.
If you are
looking for a bite like nothing else meaning every time you put the bait in the water there is fish on you might want to go off the beaches. Its crazy Mackerel, King Fish, Bonita, Sharks, and many others have been feeding really well. Most of the fish we have been finding have been on structure just off the beaches, or look for the birds feeding on bait. Most of this fishing you want to use live bait with a steel leader and a hook that fits the bait. With the water temp this should stay good till it drops below 65 it's been a lot of fun. This is how we have started some of our mornings out and then moved to the back water.
The Red
fish bite has been great as well. The full moon is gone and the fish are back and feeding good. We only had a couple of days of fishing for these great fish but the bite was on. Both days the schools of fish we found were all oversize fish. This means we couldn't bring any home but the guys had a lot of fun catching them. All of the fish were between 29 and 35 inches these are some great fish. They will hang in there with the other fish as long as the water temp stays the same.
