Mega Red fish!

We have another great week of fishing under of belt. The fishing last week was awesome! It’s that time of year where there is a lot of change going on. Fish moved around a bit each day and some wanted to eat better then others. Overall, I don’t think it could get much better. We’ve been catching some great numbers of fish and even better size fish. There is only a few weeks left of this fishing... with live bait. Soon, we’ll have to use shrimp and lures.
Let’s talk
about Snook. When we invested some time into Snook fishing, we were able to catch some really nice fish. For the most part, most of the Snook we’ve caught have been mixed in with Red fish. We had some days where the Snook have been a really nice size and others where the fish were just short of being a keeper. No matter what size, they are all fun to catch. Any Snook over 25 inches is going to put up a great fight. If you take a look at the picture, you will see that we had a few days with a few that met the slot.
On to the Red fish!
The Redfish bite has been phenomenal and the size of the fish we’ve caught has been unbelievable. We’ve caught many great-sized fish over the past few weeks and each week the size has increased. A 42 inch Redfish is our catch of the week. You really don’t see many fish over the 40 inch mark on the on Coast. A Redfish over 35 inches is considered a Bull Red. Not only did we catch a bigger fish than last weeks 41 inch Redfish, we almost had two of them. We caught the 42 inch Red fish approximately 1 hour after catching a 40 inch Red fish. We also caught a 36 ½ inch Redfish in between the 42 inch and 40 inch fish and I am not going to mention all the fish that we caught over 30 inches. What a record setting day of fishing! 42 inches for a Red fish on the flats is amazing. Take a look at the picture of the fish. Although
this fish is really old and beat up, he is one of the hardest fighting Red fish I have ever caught.
Last, but not least, we’ll talk about some Tarpon. We had one more fall run with these big guys at the beginning of last week because the wind picked up. When the wind picks up to much it is really too rough to get out to the bridge to fish for these fish. Not only did the wind pick up, we also had some cooler weather. This cooler weather brought the water temperature down quickly so we might not have any more Tarpon runs this fall. The day we did manage to catch a few fish, it was interesting. We had a few doubles and landed 3 to 4 Tarpon. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that we will get to see a little more action with these great fish.
