It's Right!

The fishing and the weather have been great in the morning, but almost every afternoon we get rain showers, which tend to put a damper on fishing. Luckily, most of the rain showers last week only lasted for about 30 minutes. We had to take a break from fishing and get out of the rain for awhile a few times, but all in all, it didn’t keep us from fishing to long. The tide has been outgoing in the afternoons lately, which means the fishing has been awesome.

Red fish have

been a little tough to catch at times, but once you get them going it’s game on. Most of the fish that we caught this past week were all over size with a few keepers mixed in here and there. Most of the fish are over 30 inches, which on the light tackle is a lot of fun. Big… little… they are all fun! Once you hook one of these big fish, they are a drag pulling machine. The fish of the week this past week was a 34 inch Red fish. Man let me tell you… he put up a fight.

There are still a few Tarpon around. We have had a little luck with some of the smaller fish up in the river lately. We are catching these 20 – 40 lb fish on light tackle so it is like catching a 100 lb Tarpon on bigger tackle. There are still some fish up in the bay, around the Skyway Bridge, and a few running off the beaches. This past week we managed to hook a few fish in a few of these areas, but didn’t have much luck landing them.

We have been catching

Trout for some of my client’s that are looking for a few fish to take home for dinner. For the most part, if you put in some time for the Trout you can catch a good mess to eat. This past week we did manage to catch some of the biggest fish that I have seen in awhile. It’s hard to see, but the fish in the picture is a 24 inch Trout. This fish is a gator Trout.

The Snook continue to bring the most action in the bay. We’ve had big numbers
and good size. These fish have been going crazy on the out going tide. We just about got tired of catching them. With the right tide, I can almost guarantee you a good Snook bite. The Snooks of the week are a 38 inch fish and a 37 inch fish that we caught the same day about 20 minutes apart. I don’t even want to get started about the fish that got away.
