Something else!

Report Date: July 12, 2007

The weather, fishing, and wind gave us some action this past week. However, the fish have produced the most action out of the three. We’ve caught Snook, Red fish, Trout, Tarpon, and a bunch of other species.

Most of the Trout that we caught over this past week have been better than what we were catching in the past. By better I mean bigger - around 15-20 inches and even a few gator Trout mixed in the bag. It is a good to see these larger Trout. While

fishing for the Trout we’ve also caught some Jacks, Lady Fish, Mackerel, and Blue fish.

The Red fish are starting to cooperate with us more lately. In the past, there were a lot of Red fish around, but they didn’t want to bite easily. That changed this past week! Not only did we get a much better bite going, we also had some great size fish! We had a lot of fish that were over size. Most of the fish we caught were over 27 inches and the bigger fish were 30 plus inches. With more rain that we will hopefully get, fishing for the Red fish will just get better.

We caught

a few different species while we were fishing for Tarpon. Which, by the way, we hooked a few nice Tarpon this past week but couldn’t land them. We did, however, manage to catch some other great fish. We caught a few small Sharks, Some really great Grouper (one of the biggest that I have caught in the bay this year - 30 plus inches), and a Cobia. The Cobia put up a great fight and supplied the fishermen with something to take home for dinner.

Catching many different species of fish is one of the plus things about fishing for Tarpon in the areas where I do.

The Snook have undoubtedly produced the most action in the bay this week. Not only has the numbers have been high; the size has been great too. With the new limits in place, the fish that we have been catching on a regular basis are very nice size. The best time to get a lot of action has been on the lower tide or the out going tide.
