Summer time is here!

Report Date: June 12, 2007

First of all, the weather has been much better. We had our normal shower or two last week, but it didn’t stop us from fishing. Summertime is finally here! The water temp is up to where it normally is this time of year at 85 degrees. As far as the fishing goes… it

couldn’t get much better!!! Well, that is for this time of the year anyhow. The fish are starting to show up in the areas where they spend the summer.

Secondly, let’s talk about the Red fish. These fish have got a little harder to catch last week, but we still managed to catch a limit everyday and some days a lot more. Let me rephrase what I said. They aren’t hard to catch, but you do have to put a little more time into catching them. That will change over the next couple of weeks as we start getting more rain. Rain usually pushes many of fish out of the rivers. Once they come out of the rivers, they are hungry so you can put big numbers in the boat in a short time. One of the biggest reasons that the Red fish have been a little tougher to catch is because of the tides. Most of the tides that we have been fishing have been really high. This usually causes the fish to spread out and go way up in the pushes. Fishing for Reds can be fun because it usually takes more skill than other fish because you have to pull them out after you hook them.

Thirdly, we’ll move on to the Snook! The same goes for the Snook as the Red fish. Well, we catch them mixed in with the Red fish. The day that you want to catch more Snook you will catch the Red fish then you

know how it goes the other days. I will say over the past week we have been catching some big numbers of Snook and we usually do this time of year. I know one thing… Some big fish have shown up over the past week. I think two things, the rain and water temp, changed it. The water temp came up 10 degrees and the rain flushed more fish out of the river. The numbers of fish will increase over the next couple of months because they moving out to the passes and beaches where the spawn this time of the year. This makes them eat a lot especially the smaller male fish. You can catch some big numbers of fish and have fun while you’re doing it.

It’s been all about the numbers with Trout too. You will catch a mess of nice fish if you put some time in. Almost every time the bait hits the water you have a fish on so you better be ready.

Last but not least, the Tarpon! Wow, these fish have come out of the wood work. Anywhere there are usually Tarpon you can just about bet there are fish there. Many of the other Captains I’ve talked to agree. Some times you will have a little trouble getting them to bite though. I have never seen so many fish out at the Sky Way Bridge, but at the same time, we couldn’t get a fish to bite a bait to save our life. There was about 4-5 other boats that were in the same water, but this did change! The first through in the water this past Monday changed. We did have some really good fishing down in Boca Grande. We managed to catch fish each trip. As you can see in the picture we did manage to boat a nice fish. The fish weighed about 140 lbs. It was all this man wanted and more for his first Tarpon.
