If they are swimming they are bitting!
Report Date: April 23, 2007
Let’s start this with a little some thing different!
Not only do you get the chance to have a great day of fishing… but it’s times like this when you just wish it could be every day. Take a look at the first picture. This was an awesome start to a great day of fishing.
If there swimming there biting! Right now, the fishing has broken lose. Some of the cooler mornings have had a little slower start but before the day was up we found a great bite. It’s all been good… Snook, Red fish, and even a Tarpon The Tarpon have shown up pretty good. I hope this is a good sign for the season. We’re catching most of the fish around the Skyway Bridge in the lower part of Tampa bay. Most of them have been great fish, weighing about 80-125 lbs or bigger. All I can say about last week is a big one got away. That’s right; we hooked a fish that was well over 150lbs. It was a big fish! It couldn’t even jump all the way out of the water. It was a neat thing to see, but we didn’t get to see it long enough. Now we just have to hook it again to show to show the great Silver King who is boss.
If we’ve had any
trouble getting one of those great Tarpon in the air we made up for it with the Snook. We’ve had some air-born Snook. Get a 25-30 inch Snook on light tackle that we use and you will have some fun! The Snook bite has been good, but some of the mornings it started a little slower because the water temp was a little low. But once it gets up just a couple of degrees the fish will turn on. Water temp is one of the biggest factors that we have other then tide. You can have one and not the other and it can make for a tough day. Over the last week we have not had too much of that for the most part.
The Redfish like the Snook pays a lot of attention to the water temp. These fish like the Snook will shut on and off with the water
temp. There are a lot of really big Redfish this year. We have caught a big number of fish that have been 32 plus inches. We’ve had a few days where we would have had a tough time find a fish small enough to keep. This is because the size limit is 18-27 inches for Redfish. The guys that did catch all these big fish didn’t complain at all. This is just the start for these fish… as the summer comes closer we will start seeing more and more of them. I can’t wait!
