Here we go!
Report Date: March 9, 2007
Here we go! It’s finally warming back up and it’s doing so quickly. It is a good thing because we can now get back into spring fishing with the Snook, Red fish and other species.
We did manage to get a few days of Speepshead fishing in before it got to warm. Man there was some great days! We caught big numbers and very nice size fish as well. I can’t even tell you how many fish that we had that was over the 4-5 lb range. They were some great Sheepses. I can say there were a few people that went home with a mess of fish after a day of this type fishing as you can see in the pictures.
We’ve been catching a few Red Fish with the Sheepshead, but most of these fish have in the bottom of the slot limit. We started fishing with a little live bait and that has changed things. The live bait brings some great fish in as you can see in the pictures. I can say one thing, when you fish with Shiners, you can bring the fish to you. Live bath makes a big difference when you through 20-30 bait out there to get the fish feeding then you can put your bait where they are feeding. We had a few fish that were over 30 inches- man what a great fight on the light tackle!
Snook Snook and more Snook!!! We’re finally catching a few of these fish again on live bait. We’ve haven’t had any really big fish yet though.
Yet being the key word because during the early spring we usually start catching some of the best Snook of the season. So over the next couple of weeks we should start getting some good Snook reports.
We tried a little Tarpon fishing because a few of the other guides said they had seen a few fish out in the bay. We didn’t have any luck with the Tarpon but we did manage to catch a few Bonita and some great Grouper. One of the Grouper was 29 inches. We should start seeing a few Tarpon over the next couple weeks if the water temp stays up. Come visit www.castawaychartersinc.com to see some pictures!
