We don't need it to be alive!

Report Date: December 11, 2004

What a week we had a few days that were a little windy but it didn’t slow us down. It started warming back up a little but it got a little too warm to fish with shrimp again, but you know what that means live bait. The shiners that we have been catching have been around the Sky way bridge but we have had a little trouble getting the fish to bite it. Last week it warmed up enough that some of the

bait started showing back up on the flats in a few places and this caused the fish to go nuts.
When we have had any trouble catching fish on live bait we have gone to shrimp or lures. With the shrimp fishing we have had a lot of luck in the cooler water temp. Most of this fishing has been around structure. We have been catching a lot of different types of fish like Sheepshead, Snapper, Drum, Grouper, Snook, and a lot of Red fish! One of the biggest things about this type of fishing is finding an area where there is a lot of tide movement. This will cause a lot of different types of fish to move through at different times.

Then we have the lure fishing and this was going a few different ways. I say this because one way is up in the river throwing plugs and the other way out in the bay trolling. Up in the river we have been doing some plug fishing, this is fishing with lures in some of the holes way up in the river. With the cooler weather the Snook are moving way up into these back waters where we have been catching some fish on shrimp but a lot more on lures. This fishing has been a lot of fun. There is nothing like working a top water lure across the surface and a Snook blowing it out of the water. The other type of fishing, trolling out in the bay with a big lure catching Grouper. This can be fun when the bite is on. We have not had really big

numbers of fish but we have had some very nice size fish.
The type of fishing that we do this time of the year has a lot to do with the weather. There are much different types of fishing and areas to do it. When it gets cold change it up a little if you’re not getting the big one to bite. The biggest thing is go out there and have some fun on the water! Hope to see you soon.
