Just hot enough!
Report Date: August 18, 2006
Let’s see its been another great week of fishing a little hot but not too bad. If you start in the early morning do a half day you are off the water before it gets too hot. For the most part this has been the best time to go fishing anyway. Although we have had a few afternoon trips that have gone very well. The only problem is this time of year we get a lot of afternoon showers.
I will start with the great Tarpon, this week just about every morning that we have fished we have started with these smaller Tarpon up in the river. We have had a lot of luck just about each trip boating numbers of fish an hooking even more of these of course. Most of these fish that we have been catching have been 10-40 lbs of course with those big ones just barely managing to get away. To say no more we have had a blast with these fish mostly because we have been catching them on the lighter tackle.
Then we have the Trout and all species fishing. If any thing else is slow you can make up for it with these fish because I mean to tell you there is a few different flats that we have been fishing that have had large numbers of fish. You can catch any thing form Grouper, Snapper, Mackerel, Flounder, of course the Trout and many other species. The biggest problem with this fishing is you better have plenty of hooks and not be scared to retie. With the Mackerel you lose a lot of hooks you can go to long shanks hook and not lose as many but you might lose the bite with some of the other species of fish like the Trout.
Then let’s go to the Red fish this bite is starting to pick up and get a lot better. The last few trips we have been able to catch a good number of fish just about each trip. Most of these fish being slot size fish 18-27 inches. If you are looking for a good fish to take home to the barbeque this is a good one. But they are a lot of fun on the light tackle as well if you are looking for a good catch and release fish just as well.
Then last but not least we have the Snook. These fish have been in a frenzy. You could say we have been catching a big number of these fish every trip. I will tell you there is a lot of Snook around most of the fish have been ranging 20-30 inches which you know what they will do on the light tackle. I hope the bite stays like it has and I can’t imagine it doing anything but getting better. The season is coming back in Sept. where you can keep your limit but catch all you want and this is the real fun.
We will have a Shark report for you next week because we are going to do a little Shark fishing! PS had a little trouble with getting the pictures up hopefuly next week!
