The big one didn't get away!

Report Date: June 12, 2006

It has been another week of great fishing. I can say that this year has been different than past ones. We’ve had to do things that we’ve never had to do before. Some of the fish want to jump in the boat and others might make you work for them.

Trout fishing has been a lot of fun lately. There have been some days where Trout fishing has been pretty good, but many of the fish that we have been catching this year have been small. One of the biggest reasons we’re having so much fun fishing for Trout is because we

have been catching other fish such as, Mackerel, Jacks, and Sharks on same tackle.

Then we have the Snook! Man o’ man we had some really nice fish last week. This time of year you usually catch a lot of small fish on the shallow flats around the channels and passes. We have been having good luck with these fish. Some days you have to move around to a couple of different pods of Snook to find the one that wants to eat and give you the fight your looking for. This past couple of weeks we’ve had some really great Snook. Some have been 30 plus inches. That is a nice fish!

To be honest with you, the Redfish have been hard work this past week. There are still some pretty good schools of fish around, but we are having a heck of a time getting them to feed. Last week you could not keep them off the fishing line. This goes to show you how this year has been changing from week to week. The rain we have been getting lately should help move some of the Redfish out of the river.

The great Tarpon! Tarpon fishing has been fantastic lately. There is a bunch of fish around this year. There are more fish than I have seen in the past two years put together! We have been catching many Tarpon in Tampa Bay and off the surrounding beaches. It is hard to say if we have caught more fish in the Bay or off the beaches. We’ve been having good luck with both. I can say we are having more luck in Tampa Bay than down in Boca Grande. We have managed to hook some fish in Boca, but getting them to the boat is a whole different story. Between all of the other boats in the pass and the commotion from them we can’t get the fish in. We’ve even seen several sharks. I have talked to a few different captains in Boca and they said they have never seen the fishing as bad as it is this year. We have a few more tournaments left in the series to fish. Hopefully, we can get a big one like we got to the boat last week. Yes, I forgot to tell you we had a fish that was over 150 lbs in the boat last week. Man what a fish!
