Tarpon of the year so far

Report Date: June 1, 2004

Well we can?t complain about the weather any more it has been beautiful the last week. This past week the only thing we had slowing the fishing down a little bit was the tides, it seemed to take a long time for the tide to change even though the tide chart said that it should be moving a little faster. But we still had some real good fishing. Each morning we started fishing on a rock pile up in the bay where the early morning Tarpon bite is usually real good. every day that we have fished in this spot we have managed to put 1-2 or more Silver kings in the air. Each morning with jumping ,and landing a few Tarpon we have been catching all kinds of other types of fish. Grouper, Sharks, Mackerel, Blue fish, Jack carvel, and a few others so we might be mainly fishing for Tarpon but the rest of the fish are fun as well.

After the early morning Tarpon bite the next decision is based on the type of fish the customers would like to fish for.. If they would like to do some back water fishing then we have had a real good Red fish bite so we will go catch a few Red fish. If we get lucky

and there has not been too much boat traffic we have still been catching 15-20 Red fish or more. Most of the fish we caught this week ranged 25-30 inches with some big bull Reds 34 inch fish being the top Red fish for the week. Which let me tell you on the light tackle this fish is a challenge. The Trout fishing has been real good in the morning so we will go catch 20-30 Trout with a few nice 20 inch Trout mixed in with the bunch. Snook fishing is better in the afternoon with an outgoing tide .They feed better for me when the tide is moving.. One day last week in the early afternoon we caught 15 Snook in about 1 hr with some Reds ,and Trout mixed in. Last week the Snook of the week was a 28 inch Snook.

If Tarpon are your desire then we will

move out to the beach and do some sight fishing for the Tarpon. This is when you find a big school place the bait just right and hold on. This fishing is more boat riding but it is well worth it when you find that big school. Over the last 2 weeks we have had a lot of Tarpon show up on the beach . It was a little late this year but were glad to see it. For the Silver King of the week we boated or leader a big fish 175-200 lbs Tarpon. This fish is the biggest of the year so far. Man what a fight! The gentleman who caught this fish did a great job.. The Tarpon never jumped out of the water for the first 20 minutes . We were not even sure what kind of fish we had. We fought this fish for over 1:35 minutes It was great!.
