Tarpon fishing at it best
Report Date: May 13, 2004
Man what a week of fishing it started with wind and rain, but we roughed it out, and went fishing anyways. We started the first day of the week with Tarpon fishing even though it was ruff. We pulled up to the bridge, and No sooner put the bait in the water and had a double hook up! Man, what a start. We managed to hook 11 more fish and boated 5 of these great Silver Kings. It started to rain a little so we decide to call it a day and try again the next day. I started the next day with the same two guys, we thought it was ruff the first day, but it was twice as ruff the second day. We managed to anchor up, and hook 3 Tarpon. We decide to move and get out of the wind because we could not keep the line tight and were missing a lot of bites. We moved to a rock pile in the bay where we usually catch a lot of Tarpon this time of year. But did not have any luck. We did however catch a few nice Black tips Sharks, Grouper, and nice Cobia about 30 lbs.
The rest of the week the weather improved and the fishing stayed awesome. The Tarpon of the week that we boated was a 150-lb Siler King. Most of the Tarpon we hooked this week averaged 80-100 lbs.
We did not do much Snook fish this week. Most of the Snook that we caught was mixed in with the Red fish. The Snook of the week was a 25-inch Snook.
We did managed to get some great Red fish this week. We had one day that all we fish for was Reds and Trout. We caught over 30 Red fish; most of the fish were 25-28 inches with a few 30 plus mixed in. The Redfish of the week was a 35-inch, and let me tell you that fish put up a heck of a fight on the light tackle.
We also did a little Trout fishing this week. The Trout bite has been great. Each day we fished we proudly caught over 25 Trout, in just a short amount of time. The Trout of the week was a 25-inch Trout that proudly weight 6 lbs.
