A little light tackle!

Report Date: June 22, 2005

Well lets hope this Red tide will get out of here soon! It has dissipated a little and we are not seeing as many dead fish. The fish that the Red tide had moved around are starting to show back up in the spots they were before the Red tide moved through. So the fishing has started to pick up.

I will start with the Snook fishing, this has been the most active bite as far as the backwater bite goes. This time of year these fish are staging in big schools so if you can find the hungry fish you can catch a big number of Snook. Most of these fish are hanging around the passes or where you have good moving water. I can give you one more little tip If you are on a lot of fish and you can not get them to bite that good try dead bait. I know it does not make much sense but some times this time of year these fish can get lazy. The Snook of the week was a 29 inch fish.

Then we have the Red fish, we have managed to catch a few of these fish but you do have to put your time in. These fish have been moving around a lot with the Red tide and have been tough to catch. But they should start schooling up better as the summer goes on. Most of the Red fish that we have caught have been in shallow water.

Trout, these fish like the Red fish have been trying to hide from the Red tide but when you find them they are hungry. Most of these fish have been in the same areas for the last couple of months. We have found a larger number of fish by fishing around the flats where most of the bait is..

Now let?s talk Tarpon. Like the other fish they were running from the Red tide but we have managed to find where these fish have been hiding. We have seen a few fish off the beach but most of the fish have been up in the bay. We have about four different locations that these fish will be at so just about every Tarpon trip that we have had we have managed to see a bunch of fish and may get lucky enough to hook a few. The past two weeks we have had a lot of fun with some smaller fish I say smaller but they are still real nice Tarpon 20- 40lbs. and we have been catching these fish on light tackle so they are a really good fight.

Along with the Tarpon in some of

these locations we had a few other species. We have managed to catch Shark, Grouper, Mackerel, Jacks, and a few others.
