In a frenzy !
Report Date: April 6, 2005
Well lets start out this week talking about the weather. Is it ever going to make its mind up?. We had another cold front come through and it got back down to 50 degrees. This managed to bring the water temp back down to 60 degrees, but I will talk about that more next week because most of that weather came through on the last two days of the week.
Well to start this week out lets talk about the Trout and Flounder fishing. The cooler mornings that we had made for better Flounder fishing. We managed to catch a couple just about each trip. Then we have
the Trout fishing which is going to get real good here very soon. The reason is that the bait is starting to move to the flats so this usually means that the Trout will show up soon. Most of the Trout that we have caught has been while fishing for Snook, and Red fish. But most of the Trout have been good size15-20 inches.
Then lets get into the Red fish. We have managed to get these fish into a frenzy just about each trip. As you can see in the picture we had three fish on at one time and the Snook fishing was so good its hard to say if they were Reds or Snook. We had a bunch of times we had three fish on at one time. Most of the Red fish this week were really nice fish. They were in the slot limit which means they were 18-27 inches with most of the fish being at the top of that range. The Red fish of the week was
a 28 inch fish.
Then it comes down to the Snook fishing as I mentioned in the Red fish report the Snook fishing was very good too! We had a lot of nice fish and like the Red fish we got these fish into a frenzy as well. We had a few times that we had more then one on at a time. When catching fish 3
at a time the number of fish you catch go up quick. Needless to say it has been a lot of fun. We had a really great Snook this week it was a 32 ? inch fish that put up an awesome fight. There was one time that I thought he was going to run out of line we had so much off the spool.
Before I forget there have been sightings of a few Tarpon around and even a little here say that 1-2 have been caught. Well this is true. There are a few fish up in the upper part of Tampa bay. I have not personally caught any but it won?t be too long. We did manage to get into some great Jacks that almost pull as hard as a Tarpon for the size of the fish. We just have to teach them how to jump!
