It getting a little Snooky!

Report Date: October 25, 2004

Just a little windy this month. Most of this month the wind was blowing pretty good but we still got to get some fishing in. This time of year the fronts start coming through just about once a week and some times this can slow the fishing down. This week we did have a small front come through but it was just windy and a little cooler. For the most part it did not hurt the fishing too much .It changed the tide a little and with the wind made some places hard to fish.

This week we did not have much luck with the Tarpon fishing. One of the mornings it was just about perfect . There was not too much wind and the Tarpon were rolling all around the boat. But we couldn?t get one of the great Silver Kings to bite, we did manage to catch some Mackerel, Blue fish, Grouper, Sharks, and a few other bites that we were not sure what they were. But there are still a lot of Tarpon in the bay and right before it gets too cold we should have some good fishing for the Tarpon.

Then we have the Red fish. This has been good one day and slow the next. A lot has to do with the tide .During the real low tide all the fish that are on the flats fall off into the pot holes and off the grass edges. This is when the Red fish get more concentrated and usually easier to catch. This week we had a few days where we caught a good number of Reds but most of the fish were smaller. But for the most part we caught a few fish to keep if you were looking for a Red fish dinner. The Red fish of this week was a 25 inch Red.

But if you were looking for a few fish to take home and eat we have the Trout or Mackerel fishing that has been fantastic. This past month we have not had much trouble catching a bunch of Trout in a short

amount of time. With the Trout we have been catching an assortment of fish like Mackerel, Cobia, Sharks, Grouper, Blue fish, Cat fish, Flounder, Jack, and a few others. To say the least you can usually catch a good mess of fish. The Mackerel are starting to show up on the beaches and usually the King fish follow. It has been a little rough to get out and do much fishing on the beach due to the wind..

Then it comes down to the Snook fishing which has increased over the last month. The water temp has gone down a little and when you find the big schools of fish you can get them in a feeding frenzy at times. The Snook are in transition moving from were they spend there summers to where they are going to spend the winter. This like Spring is a very good time to fish for the Snook and you can catch large numbers. The Snook this time of the year will sometimes range bigger because they are trying to get fattened up before the winter. This week we had some days where the Snook fishing was a little slower but we still caught 15 fish or better. Then we had days that we caught over 30 easy. The Snook of the week was a 28 inch Snook.
