Find Warmer Water to Find the Bite

Report Date: January 1, 2013

Although the cool Tampa Bay mornings have made for a bit slower bite, it didn’t turn the bite completely off. It has still been good for this time of year. Recently, we’ve caught some really nice redfish. On the other hand, the trout and snook bite has been slow. I believe that we could get a good trout and snook bite going if we could find some warmer water.

This time of the year we have really low tides. These really low tides make for great winter fishing. Most all the fish get pushed off the flats on lower water to white holes and the edges of bars. Even if the morning starts off a little cooler the water temperature will usually rise if it’s a sunny day. Fishing is going to remain the same over the next few weeks. Well, as long as we don’t get a really big cold front.
