Tampa Bay fishing!

It’s that time of year when you have to dress in layers. Most mornings a jacket is a necessity, but by noon, shorts are. Well, that dress code is for us Floridians anyway. If the temperature drops below 70 degrees, I need a jacket. Although the cold front came through the Tampa Bay area and made the mornings a little cool, the fish don’t seem to mind.
The tarpon bite has finally slowed down a bit. The water has been too rough lately to do much tarpon fishing, and when we have, we didn’t have much luck. Hopefully, the bite will get better when the
weather is nicer.
The redfish bite has been great lately. They have moved into the areas where they spend the fall. Recently, each morning that we’ve started early with the redfish, we’ve found a big school of fish and caught a great number of them. Most of the fish have been upper slot sized fish with a few big bulls mixed in. When you get a redfish over 30 inches on your line you certainly have a great fight on your hands.
Snook fishing has been great lately too. We have not caught many big snook, but we’ve caught many of them.
Snook fishing is going to get even better later in fall. Over the next few weeks more big snook should show up on the flats.
