Change is coming to Tampa Bay fishing soon!

Report Date: September 6, 2011

Change is coming! Soon the weather is going to change, the type of fish we’re fishing for is going to change, and the places we’re fishing are going to change as fall nears.

The sharks have been in a biting frenzy lately, and luckily, I had a group that wanted to try it out last week. As you can see from the attached picture, we caught a great hammerhead. The hammerhead sure did put up a great fight, leaving the kids on the boat speechless when we landed it.

It’s exciting to hook up to one tarpon, but to hook up to two tarpon at once is great. There has been many times lately where we are hooked up to two tarpon at the same time. Some bait has moved into different areas, and produced a great tarpon bite. Many of the tarpon are in the 30 lb to 50 lb range. Don’t you worry… where there are small fish, there are also large fish. We landed one fish last week that was pushing 150 lbs, which is phenomenal for this time of the year. What a great fish it was! We’ve also landed a few tarpon in the 100 lb range.

The big schools of redfish have finally moved back in to the area.

With these big schools, the tide doesn’t play such an important part in catching them. So much small bait showed up in the area that the redfish came out of hiding and started to eat. The fall redfish bite is going to be great! Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip to day.
