Tampa Bay waters getting jiggy!

Report Date: January 1, 2011

It’s jig and shrimp time! It turned real cold real quick; it’s definitely wintertime. The cold weather has caused the water temperatures to plummet, but not enough where the fish won’t bite. They are just biting jigs and shrimp instead of live bait.

Because

the water temperature dropped so low so fast, the fish are biting shrimp better than jigs. Lately, we’ve caught many great redfish and sheapshead. The fish seem somewhat finicky lately. One day they bite and the next they don’t. We are currently fishing up in the area rivers a lot so the tides are contributing to the on and off again bite. More than once lately while fishing a local hole on and outgoing tide, we couldn’t keep sheapshead off of our line. The next day while fishing the same hole on an incoming tide, we couldn’t catch anything but redfish.

At least we are doing what’s important…. CATCHING FISH!

Over the next few weeks we’re going to be changing things up a bit. We are going to start fishing with more jigs mainly because trout season is going to open back up. We have managed to catch some nice redfish on jigs but not quiet as good as the shrimp. Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip today!
