TAMPA BAY FISHING SOME GREAT DAYS ON THE WATER!

Report Date: October 22, 2009

Sometimes wind is a good thing when it comes to fishing! Many times it makes fishing in some areas easier. We could have used a little more wind last week when the weather was super hot and the water was extra calm. Many times when the water is to calm, it is difficult to get close enough to the fish in order to catch them.

This shouldn’t be a problem over the next few weeks. The wind should pick up and we should start to see many changes.

Snook fishing has been good. Once the water temperature drops a bit more, it will be great. Many of the fish that we’ve caught lately have been just under the slot at 20 inches to 27 inches long.

However, catching 20 to 30 fish in a row is great fun no mater what size they are. We did catch a 31 inch snook last week, proving that there is always some large fish mixed in with the small fish. The 31 inch snook was caught by Wade Boggs in the Hooked on Hope Fishing Tournament to benefit breast cancer that we participated in. The snook was just one of the three fish that Wade caught. He also caught a 28 ¾ inch redfish and an 18 ½ inch trout for a slam total of 78 ¼ inches and a first place win.

The tarpon are still here, and they are hungry. The fish are ranging in size anywhere from 30 pounds to150 pounds. Although tarpon should do some moving

around over the next few weeks, we should still be able to find them. We will just have to change our fishing techniques a bit as well as the areas we are fishing.

The redfish bite is hot. The size of the fish seems to depend on the day. One day they are huge and the next they are slot sized.

Much like the tarpon, you never know what size fish you are going to catch next. Many times trying to turn a big fish is a big challenge. Just put a lot of pressure on the drag. Take a look at the picture. As you can see, we did manage to turn a few of the 40 inchers. Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip today!
