Tampa Bay Fishing Non Stop Action!

Report Date: August 13, 2009

The full moon and the moving tides are causing fish to move around. While we might have had an easy bite with some species of fish, we’ve had to work hard for others. Do to the abundance of bait in the Bay; the bite is going to continue to change.

We caught a lot of great

redfish last week. There were days where we had to work hard for the redfish bite and others where it seemed as if they were going to chew the prop off of the boat. We caught the redfish of the season last week… a 38 incher.
The redfish is the fish that does the most moving around during the full moon, which has made them difficult to catch at times and easy to catch at other times. You might find a big school of redfish on the flat one day and the next they are gone. During the full moon, it is necessary to do a lot of moving around to find the right school of fish.

Much like redfish,

snook are on the move during the summer. This time of year we generally find snook in deeper water. Summertime is a good time of year to night fish for snook because the water temperature cools down and they feed better. Some of the snook that moved to deeper water will start to come back into shallow water making it easier to catch more snook in one area at a time.

The early morning tarpon bite has been great. The fish range from 20 pounds to 100 pounds. Tarpon is another type of fishing that is good at night during the full moon. During the next few weeks, we should start to see some of the bigger fish. Please visit www.castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip today.
