Tampa Bay Redfishing Live Bait!

Report Date: December 22, 2008

Hot, cold, hot, cold…the weather can’t make up its mind! It’s the week of Christmas and the highs are in the 80’s. Well, I guess we are in Florida. Although the weather has wavered between hot and cold, the fishing has remained hot! The fish are just a bit confused by this weather. The water temperature is around 70 degrees, which is almost unheard of for this time of year. But…we’ve been catching fish and that’s what counts.

Most of the fish we’ve been catching have been in or around the river. We’ve had to catch a lot of bait in order to chum these fish up and get them into a frenzy, which we’ve managed to do on every trip that I’ve fished lately. Most of the fish are in really shallow water, so it is important to be quiet. The water has been so clear lately that the fish don’t want to get close to the boat. We’ve also switched to lighter leader to help the bite. We’ve dropped from 25lb test to 20lb test, which is hard for even me to believe, but it does make the bait look better.

Over the next few weeks I think we will start seeing some changes, but for now we are just enjoying catching fish. Come catch some snook, redfish, snapper, or even grouper. Please visit www. castawaychartersinc.com and book your trip today!
