Tampa Bays Fall is coming!

Report Date: September 24, 2008

It’s feeling more and more like fall everyday! It has been cooler in the morning, which is a nice change, but it certainly doesn’t take long to warm up. By the end of the day it is pretty hot. As usual, the wind has been coming and going making some days easier to fish than others. On the days that it was windy, we just worked with it and still caught fish. Last week brought some awesome bites with many different types of fish!

One of the best bites of the year has been the tarpon bite. Although we haven’t been tarpon fishing much lately, we did once last week and it was a great day. We started the morning off with a double header. We landed one of the tarpon and hooked and jumped over 12 others. The tarpon we hooked were anywhere from 30 lbs. up to 150 lbs. and this is just the beginning of a great fall run for the tarpon.

The redfish

bite has been great. Just about every time a bait hit the water last week, we had a fish on. Most of these fish have been over sized, but fun to catch. Fighting a 30 plus inch red is invigorating to a fisherman. Lately, we’ve had four people fighting great redfish at the same time. That is great fishing!

Most of the snook we’ve caught lately are a bit small. Most have been 15 inches to 26 inches long. However, we did manage to catch a few keeper snook last week. When the water temperature decreases a few more degrees, the big fish will be biting. We are starting to see more good sized fish; we’ve just got to get them to bite.
