Tampa Bay fish on in just seconds!

Report Date: August 20, 2008

Fishing has been pretty awesome lately! The Bay was a little rough last week due to the 10mph to 15mph winds, but the fishing was great. Although each day was different, we were certainly able to catch plenty of fish.
We

had a great tarpon bite last week. Believe it or not, we are still catching tarpon around the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Last week we caught a mixed bag of fish ranging from 20 lbs to 125 lbs. Most of the fish we boated were 20 lbs to 70 lbs. It is just the beginning of the tarpon fall run so the fish should get bigger. Catching big tarpon is awesome, but it’s also a lot of fun catching the smaller ones too.
We had the

most luck catching snook last week on outgoing tides. We got these fish in a frenzy almost each time a bait hit the water and ended up with some great numbers of them. For the most part, the fish we caught were schoolies, ranging from 20 inches to 25 inches. No matter the size of the fish, it is great fun when you have a fish on your line with every cast.
Trout and shark fishing was also good last week. Much like snook fishing, every time a bait hit the water we had a fish on the line. We caught a shark about every other trout. Most of the sharks were not much bigger than the trout, but of course, they fought harder. It is great catching 2 ft to 3ft blacktip or sand sharks on 10lb tackle.
Along with tarpon, snook, and trout, we caught great numbers

of redfish last week. We had a fish on our line every cast, and if we didn’t, it was mostly because our bait was gone off the hook. Most of the redfish we caught were 28 inches to 34 inches, which again is a great fight on 10lb test. Although most of the fish we caught were out of the slot range, we did catch a few that did fall in the slot limit of 18 inches to 27 inches to take home for dinner.
