Fall fishing!

What a change in less than a week! The weather has changed quite a bit over the past week and winter is just around the corner. Fall is a great time of the year to fish and this past week was awesome. You name a fish and we hooked or caught it last week. Of course we caught Snook and Red fish, but we also caught Grouper, Tarpon, and King fish. The fish are around and they are feeding very well!

The Tarpon,

Grouper, and King fish usually have a fall run. Last week we either managed to catch or hook all of these great fish. We even hooked all three in one day a time or two. All of these fish have been off the beaches and in the bay lately. Well, the Tarpon and Grouper have been back in the bay, but I haven’t seen any King Fish there yet. Most of the King fish have been off the beach. I have a neat story I would like to share with you from last week. We managed to hook and land a 30 plus inch Grouper on 10 lb test line. We hooked it before pulling the anchor and chased one of them down before the fish took all the line off the fishing rod. We had no clue that it was a Grouper. We caught a bunch of smaller Grouper as well. When one of these fish came up it looked like a Cobia – I sure didn’t think that it would be a big Grouper.

Snook

fishing was better last week than it has been lately mainly because the fish have grown over the past few weeks. We started catching a lot of really nice fish with a number of fish that met the new slot limit, which means that they were over 28 inches. That, my friends, is a great Snook. This is always the time of the year when we usually start catching some great fish. Low tide or High tide… We’ll take either one! We just need it moving because it is the biggest factor in catching great Snook. The Snook of the week was a 30 inch fish. The next two months we should see a lot more of these fish before they go to their winter homes.

The Red fishing has remained good over the past few weeks. Actually, Red fishing has been going crazy.

I am not really sure where all these fish are coming from, but it’s impressive. Many of these fish are 20-27 inches. Most of them are closer to the top of the slot, which is at 27 inches. We have managed to get on some Red fish bites last week that brought some big numbers of fish to the boat. Each day was different because we managed to catch some great fish, but we never knew where the bite would be the best. It’s a good thing that we have so many different areas to find these great fish. Although most of the fish were 20-27 inches, we did have a few fish through out the week that were those bruisers that are a 30 plus inch fish.
