A challenge on light tackle!

Wow! We sure have had some warm weather over the past couple of weeks. We also had quite a bit of rain and that has helped cool it down a little. The water temp was up to around 88-91 degrees. 91 this year being the hottest I can say we have seen it. With all that rain it dropped down 83-89 degrees. This is a big change when the water temp goes up and down this makes the fish move around a lot and feed at different times. However this hasn’t slowed down the fishing at all.

Starting this week out is the Red fish bite. There is still a fair amount of fish around but they have been a little tougher to catch. One of the biggest reasons has been the tide but the bigger reason has been the lack of fishing for these great fish. Lack of fishing has been because most of the people that have fished with me lately have wanted to do the Snook fishing because of

how good it has been. Most of the Red fish that we did catch this week were good slot size fish 20-24 inches we caught these while we were Snook fishing.

I keep talking about the Snook so I will talk about that next. As far as fishing in the bay goes this has been the most action with the Trout right behind it. The Snook fishing well you could almost call it Snook catching because it has been so good. Most of the fish that we have been catching have been 20-26 inches which are good fish but I will say we have had a number of fish lately that have met the new size limit. This is a fish that is over 28 inches. We had a good number of these fish mixed in with the smaller ones. Like I have always said any fish is a good fish and a lot of fun when he’s pulling on the end of your line. As you can see in the picture this is one of many Snook that this young man caught for his first time Snook fishing it was a really nice one!

That brings

us to the Trout fishing this has changed the most, not because we aren’t catching them but its taking a little more work to catch the big ones to bring home to eat. In the picture you can see there are still some great fish around but we have had to pick through them. The good thing is you are catching fish the whole time just waiting for the big one is a little more work, but well worth it as you can see in the look on this young mans face.

Tarpon,

they are still here but we didn’t get many chances to fish for them last week. The one trip that I did a little Tarpon fishing, well that is just a whole different story. I say little, we were trying for the smaller Tarpon when we hooked up with one. The only thing was this fish wasn’t so little it was a fish that was about 80 lbs. This isn’t a hugh fish but on 10 lb tackle it was more then we were prepared for. I will say we managed to fight this fish and get it closer to the boat then I thought we ever would. The guys did an awesome job cranking on this great fish. They switched back and forth for about 45 minutes before we decided to break him off next to the boat. I will say it was a fight like I haven’t seen in a while. See you on the water.
