Some people will do anything for a fish!

Report Date: May 23, 2007

Tarpon on!!! This past week the fish have shown up everywhere. In the

bay, in the river, off the beach, and yes, there are still some fish around the Sky Way Bridge. Most of the Tarpon fishing that I have done this past week has been in the Boca Grande Pass. You want to talk about a lot of fish this past couple of weeks? The fish have started moving into the Boca Pass. If you know about Tarpon fishing, you know about Boca Grande Pass. Again, we are fishing the Professional Tarpon Tournament in Boca. We had some really great pre-fishing down there this past week as you can see in the picture. We had the Ladies Day Tournament on Saturday and the first men’s first tournament on Sunday. The men’s tournament goes on for the next 5 weeks. The ladies tournament went good! Well… other than the shark that took our fish. That fish would have won the tournament or put us in the top five. We lost a few others as well. I can say one thing… the ladies that we had fishing on the boat did an awesome job. I don’t remember the last time that I fished in that ruff of water. It was probably

about 4-6 ft chop both days of the tournament. It was hard fishing conditions, but we still did pretty well. We hooked a lot of fish both days, but just couldn’t get the big one to the scale.

Let’s get back to our area! The Snook and Red fish are showing us a lot of activity. Everyday is a little different! Some fish in one spot will feed really good one day and the next you have a little more trouble catching those same fish. The good thing is there are so many fish around in different places you will find a bite some where. Most of the Red fish this past week were slot size fish with a big one mixed in every once in a while. The Snook were running about the same size as the Red fish - 18-28 inches with a few bigger ones mixed in. I do have one story to tell you about the fish that almost got away. As you can see in the picture, some people will do any thing to catch a

fish. The picture tells the story!

If you are having any trouble catching fish find yourself an edge of a shallow flat, throw a little chum, and hold on because the Trout fishing has been going crazy. If you are looking for a mess of fish to take home these are a good ones. We have been catching a mixed bag in with the Trout, Mackerel, Blue fish, Lady fish, Jacks, Sharks, and a few others. It’s what you can call a mixed bag. It’s a good thing to see the Trout fishing come back after the Red tide the past few years. Well, I hope to see you on the water soon. By the way, if you are
