Bring it on!

Report Date: May 13, 2007

Is the weather ever going to get back to normal? That seems to be the question of the year! I know it’s nice when the weather isn’t to hot, but I’m ready for it to get back to normal. Hurricane season is just around the corner. Many fish are really close to their summer spots getting ready for it to warm up. Once the weather warms up, the fish can start summer actives.

I’ll start with the Tarpon bite! The Tarpon are here. When you find Tarpon feeding… you can catch them well. With the wind over the past week we have had a little trouble getting out fishing for the great silver kings. This is because most of the fish are still up in the bay around the Sky Way Bridge. Although, I have talked to a few other charter captains that have said that the Tarpon are starting to

show up around Egmont Key. Many fish spend their summer at Egmont Key. Next they will move to the beach and then will be catching them as they migrate south. This doesn’t mean we will not be fishing for the Tarpon around the Sky Way Bridge… this just gives us that many more areas to fish for them.

Come on Mr. Red fish! Not that this fishing has been bad, but it just got much better. We just had to work for it a little harder. New fish have started to show up and started feeding a little better. The biggest thing we have to work with now is the tides. Some days it’s higher then it calls for, and other days it’s lower. One of the biggest factors with this is the wind. If it’s blowing one way it will be higher the other it will be lower. To sum it up… last week we did have some great days with the Red fish.

Snook!!! This

has been a different story itself. These fish have been going crazy. There are not quite so many people fishing for them since they are out of season, so the bite is great. The biggest factor has been the water temperature. It has been where the Snook love it… just above 70 degrees. Just because they are out of season doesn’t mean that they are not fun to catch and release. Besides, this is when you catch the big fish. We have had some good numbers of these fish last week.

Trout!!! I

have forgotten to say much about them the last few reports. It’s been great numbers and size. The whole bite has been great. I just haven’t had many guys that have wanted to catch these fish. Trout like the Red fish will become more and more popular over the next few weeks.
