Getting there!

Report Date: December 28, 2006

Here we are with another week of fishing. I can’t say I remember the last Christmas that was this warm. It just doesn’t feel like that time of the year. I think the fish are

thinking the same kind of thing. I mean just before Christmas we were still catching fish on live bait. Shiners chumming the fish in to a frenzy. We had a few days where we caught a lot of Red fish on shiners this time of the year that is unheard of in this area but I will take it all day long.

But it got cold on us again or the temp that it should be this time of the year. But it sounds like it’s going to warm back up at the end of the week. Meanwhile we have managed to get out the last couple of days and where we left off with the shiner fishing we have come back with the shrimp and are doing just as well. We managed to catch some big numbers of Red fish with the shrimp . Then it comes to the Sheepshead well I have not caught very many of those on shiners one or two over the last couple of years. They are eating the shrimp, we have been catching a mix of them in with the Red fish.

Like the Red fish the Sheepshead like

to hang around the structure. A lot of the fish we have been catching have been around the beach, passes and some of the docks in the rivers. Like I said all this fishing is done with shrimp. We have been catching a bunch of other kinds of fish in with them a Snook here or there, Snapper, Grouper, Drum, Flounder, and a few other types. If it would stay one temp these fish would stay in one spot for a little while. But that is why they call it fishing and it is nice to spend a lot of time on the water to know what is going on.

The last thing is the near shore report. I have not had any trips that have wanted to go far out but they are catching some nice Grouper about 15 miles out with a few Snapper mixed in. This report is from a few of the other Captains. This time of the year it is hard to plan a trip off shore too far ahead of time. You don’t know when you are going to get a front.

For those that are planing those trips for next year you might want to get started I have started booking trips it’s getting to be that time of the year. Hope to see you out on the water soon! Have a good New Year!
