Red fish in a frenzy

Report Date: May 18, 2004

Well the wind has not let up yet its still blowing but we are still catching fish. I should say the wind has not totally let up every once in a while we get a day when it is only blowing 10-15. Well we started this week with the hope that the Tarpon fishing would be as good as last week. The first morning we fished we got to our spot no less put the bait in the water, and I was telling the customer exactly how to Tarpon fish to set the hook real hard then as soon as the Silver King jumps out of the water to bow the rod an give slack in the line. Need less to say we had a Tarpon on for a few minutes then the fish jumped. This was a good start but we had a few more runs and caught a lot of Grouper and one big Mangrove Snapper about 5 lbs. The rest of the week was about the same the bite was a little slower.

Because the Tarpon bite was a little slower this allowed us to do more fishing for Trout and Red Fish. The Trout fishing was really good each day we fished we caught over 30 Trout with some big Trout 3 different days we had 2-3 Trout 5 lbs or better. With even most of the other Trout being over 2 lbs. What a week for big Trout, a few of these days that we were Trout fishing we had some unexpected visitors like a big Tarpon and a few big Cobia that we just did not have much luck stopping the fish with the real light tackle.

Red fish are going nuts were have had some really good fish for the Reds. Each day that we have fished we have caught over 30 Red fish. If big redfish is what you want just increase the size of the bait.. . Most of the Red fish have been big fish pushing the 30 inch mark, with a few studs mixed in pushing 35 inches. Let me tell you get one of these 30 plus inch Red fish on the line you got a fight on your hands.

The Snook are still around we had one day last week that we fished for Snook for a couple hours we caught 20 Snook with a few nice fish mixed in 26-28 inches most of the Snook were 23-25-1/2 inch fish.

There are some Sharks in the bay we hooked a few real big fish one of the afternoons we fished last week one was a Hammer head about 9 feet long, we also caught a lot of black tip Sharks all about 4-5 feet long.
