On the Fly!

Report Date: March 14, 2005

Well I don?t know were to start Snook, Red fish, Trout, Flounder, we are catching them all just about each trip. This would be a grand slam very nice! The weather is warming up and the fish are definitely going crazy. We have had a few windy days but that

is the nice thing about the backwater fishing because the areas that we fish you can get out of the wind.

I will start with the Flounder and the Trout. Some of the mornings that we have fished it has started out being a little cold. This is when we have had more luck with the Flounder fishing. When the water temp is too cold the Snook and Red fish can be a

little slow but the Flounder will eat if the water temp is 50 degrees. We have not caught a whole lot of Trout but most of the fish we have been catching have been really good size. The Flounder of the week was 22 inches. The Trout of the week was a 23 inch fish.

Then we have the Snook fishing, this has been great. We have been catching a lot of really good fish. Most of the fishing we have been doing has been with live bait and we have caught a lot of fish. Some of the mornings have started a little slow with the Snook bite but give the sun a little time to get up and the water temp

to come up about 2-3 degrees and the fish will turn on. Most of the water where we have had the most luck has been about 64 degrees or more. The Snook of the week was a 28 inch fish. Before I forget the fly fishing for the Snook has been awesome! We have been able to catch a number of fish each trip with the fly rod.

Then we have the Red fish. The fishing for the Red fish has been better first thing in the morning. Like the Snook we have had a few mornings where we got the Red fish into a good frenzy. We have caught a good number of fish in a short

amount of time. Most of the Red fish that we have been catching have been slot size fish 18-27 inches. Some of the bigger fish are 7-8 lbs. All this fishing has been with live bait. To get these fish in a good frenzy you have to do a little chumming so you have to have a lot of bait. It has been tough to keep too much bait because of the red tide. There are little spots all through the bay where I have been running through and have been losing my bait. We had some great Red fish. The Red fish of the week was a 28 inch fish. We have managed to catch a few on the fly rod as well as you can see in the picture.
